FAQs

Is there a cost for repairs?

If there is an issue with our equipment, we do not charge any fee. However, if the problem is related to your own computers or network, or if you have accidentally damaged our equipment or cabling, repairs will be charged at $95 per hour with a minimum charge for 1 hour plus the cost of materials and supplies. After the initial hour, billing will be in 15-minute increments.

In the past, we did not charge for repairs; however, with the ever-increasing cost of fuel, repairs, and day-to-day operating expenses, we now need to ensure those expenses are covered. This adjustment allows us to sustain our service quality and continue providing assistance to our valued customers.

Do you provide a Wi-Fi router?

We provide a basic entry-level router with our service, but for optimal performance in some homes, a more advanced WiFi solution may be necessary. As technology evolves, newer standards like WiFi-6 (802.11ax) and WiFi-7 (802.11be) have been developed, offering significant enhancements. These advancements ensure improved speed and stability for a wide array of connected devices such as smart TVs, smart speakers, phones, tablets, laptops, and other wireless gadgets.

We are eager to assist new subscribers in selecting the best WiFi setup that suits their specific needs and budget.

For existing subscribers who are still using one of our older AirCube routers, we will guide you in selecting the right router or mesh system and provide configuration support to guarantee a seamless transition. Please be aware that these older routers are no longer supported and are being phased out of our network.

Are your speeds guaranteed?

At Red Sands Internet, we are dedicated to delivering speeds that are close to or even exceed our advertised rates whenever feasible. Your selection of a router or mesh system significantly impacts the WiFi speeds within your home. We’re here to assist you in choosing the best option to enhance your internet experience and optimize your connection.

Which MESH system do you recommend?

We’ve been thoroughly pleased with the price and performance of the TP-Link Deco series, available in 802.11ax or 802.11be versions. These systems typically include 2 or 3 nodes but can be effortlessly expanded if necessary to guarantee exceptional WiFi coverage throughout your home. If you decide to purchase a TP-Link system, please inform us, as we would gladly handle the installation and configuration for you at no additional cost.

Can I use a WiFi extender?

Based on our experience, WiFi extenders often do not always deliver the desired results, so we do not recommend using them. If you’re looking to improve your WiFi coverage, we suggest considering either a higher-quality WiFi router or a mesh system. These solutions are much more effective at distributing a strong, reliable signal throughout your home.

If there is an area of your home where you’d like to improve the WiFi signal, please feel free to contact us at support@redsandsinternet.ca. We’ll be happy to provide a recommendation tailored to your specific needs.

Do I need to sign a contract?

No, Red Sands Internet does not require you to sign any contract.

Will I be able to work from home using Red Sands Internet?

Yes, of course.  In fact, the majority of subscribers work from home.

What happens when there is a problem with my Internet connection?

When you encounter an issue with your internet connection, we understand how frustrating it can be. While occasional internet problems are inevitable, we strive to provide prompt assistance. If possible, we suggest checking our social media pages or website for any recent posts indicating widespread issues. Before contacting us, please try restarting your router first to see if that resolves your issue. Alternatively, you can call or text us at 902-218-8550 for support. Text is the preferred method; however, we would also be happy to talk with you if you are not comfortable texting. We’re here to help resolve any issues and get you back online as quickly as possible.

I just ran a speedtest and am only getting xxMbps and I think I should be getting faster speeds, is there a problem!?

If you’ve just run a speed test and are only getting xxMbps, it’s understandable to question whether there’s an issue. However, there are several factors that can affect your speed test results. For the most accurate measurement, we recommend running the speed test from a computer that is directly wired to the router. This method provides the truest reflection of the internet speed coming into your home. If the test is conducted over WiFi, the results are likely to be somewhat slower.

If you’ve conducted the speed test from a wired computer and are still not achieving the speeds you expect, there may indeed be an issue that requires our attention. While speeds can fluctuate for various reasons, we aim to provide consistently decent speeds.

If you’ve conducted the speed test over WiFi and received poor results, our initial recommendation would be to check the settings of your router to ensure it is operating on a clear channel with minimal WiFi interference. If your WiFi system is more than a couple of years old, it may be worthwhile to consider upgrading to a better WiFi router or MESH system. This could help improve your WiFi performance and provide a more reliable connection.

To be frank, we have reservations about relying solely on speed tests, as many people conduct them from their phones or other wireless devices. Our goal is to provide internet service of such high quality that you never feel the need to run a speed test. However, if you ever have concerns about your connection, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us for assistance.

Can I use a VoIP phone service?

While there should be no problems using a VoIP phone it is not something that we can provide support for.  With that being said, there are a good number of subscribers that use VoIP phones without issue.

I have an android box or Firestick that provides cheap or free tv over the internet, will it work with Red Sands Internet?

While we do not condone the use of questionable streaming services, we understand that some people may choose to use them. With that in mind, it’s important to do your research and understand that you may experience buffering or encounter channels that simply don’t work. These issues are beyond our control and may be due to overloaded IPTV servers or one of our upstream providers throttling connections to these servers.

More often than not, IPTV service issues can be attributed to your smart TV or media player being connected via WiFi. For the best streaming experience, we highly recommend hardwiring these devices directly to your router. This can significantly improve stability and performance.

Android boxes or Firesticks can generally be used without issues, however we cannot guarantee their flawless performance. These devices are often associated with illegal or pirated TV content and may not be optimized for streaming as effectively as legal providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, etc. While they may work well most of the time, occasional compatibility issues or performance limitations may arise. We encourage users to prioritize legal streaming options for the best experience and to avoid potential legal and technical complications.

My email address is @bell.ca, @pei.sympatico.ca or something else from another internet service provider. Do I need to change my mail if I switch to a new internet provider?

At Red Sands Internet, we encourage all subscribers to sign up for a free email account from Gmail. If you have an email address from another internet service provider, you will lose access to that email address when you leave that provider. By using a free Gmail account, your email remains independent of your internet service provider, allowing you to access your mail easily, even while traveling.
